Bookcover Project
Second project of the term! For this one we were asked to chose from a list of made up books, make up a vague storyline and produce a cover. I chose "Three Blind Men" "a cautionary tale of woe for the modern gentleman". My story basically follows three individual storylines of people who focus on the wrong things in life and come to rather nasty ends.
I'm in love with Dutch Vanitas paintings at the minute, which show the "meaninglessness of earthly lifeand the transient nature of all earthly goods and pursuits". These include lots of symbolic imagery like skulls, hourglasses, bursting bubbles (demonstrating the fragility of life), lemons (the bitter-sweet nature of life), smoke and rotten fruit and I decided to twist these for my own photograph.

Here's my final design, text wasn't a very important part of the assignment, i've just added some basic lettering to make my book look more professional.

Marrying the words Puppets and Politics
Blast from the past here. This is the first project I did in Falmouth and although I hated how it looked at the time, its definitely starting to grow on me. The project was to choose two words from a list and put them together in an illustration. I chose puppets and politics because the Clinton vs. Obama elections were still ongoing.
I did ponder whether to make the puppets have a likeness to the politicians themselves, but eventually decided against it because I wanted to make an image that made a statement about politicians in general, I didnt want my audience to get distracted by the woman vs. black man topic, as they did in real life. My idea is that it doesnt matter who you vote for, the puppeteers are always in control.

The Acorn Project
There's a project at my uni currently to design a little camera to spy on the local wildlife. These camera's are then going to be distributed to schools in the local area to create a community project, helping everyone to understand more about the environment around them. I was asked to create an illlustration for their instruction manual and i'm rather chuffed with it, so I decided to share it.

Been at the photography again
It has been ages since I posted. I lost a lot of confidence in my work since moving to uni but it's slowly coming back again. I've been running about Limavady with a camera and come up with some gorgeous stuff, maybe I just like it because it's my hometown, but all the same it makes me while proud to be from Limavegas. These ones were taken on Benevenagh mountain, just before you come into the town itself. The sky was too beautiful not to capture. They are a bit blurry cause I took them from the car.
